After a lot of research finding good breeders, we discovered a lovely local lady at Carriegame Labradors. Before we went, my husband insisted, “We’re only going to look, not to buy!” Well, that didn’t last long!
When we arrived, we first met “mum”, a delightful black Labrador who had recently given birth. In the nicest way possible, her boobs were swinging even after she had stopped walking. She had the classic Labrador personality and loved meeting us. We later learned that meeting mum first is the best way to see if potential owners are suited to the breed. The breeder also asked us questions about our house, other dogs and if there was anything special we were looking for in our puppy.
Next, we went to meet the pups. There were four chocolate -coloured pups and five black puppies in the litter. The father was chocolate. Like any puppies, they were the cutest and very curious to see these strangers who had come to visit them.
Returning to my husband’s comment, the conversation I overheard was about how much of a deposit the breeder wanted!
We were thrilled to be bringing another Labrador into our family, but of course, we had to consider how Tilly would react to the new addition.
