The Brown Spot: Small Mark, Big Question

Poppy was still our little whirlwind, keeping us entertained and occasionally exasperated. Even though she passed all her training, out on walks especially around woodlands and social outings, selective hearing was very present! 😂. On one of our strolls, we noticed a mysterious small brown patch on Poppy’s neck. Naturally, we were curious about its origin. While it wasn’t a big deal, Poppy came from show lines, with many Carriegame Labradors shining at Crufts, and we hoped to follow in their paw prints. However, this “birthmark” ment she couldn’t be shown. We consulted the breeder, who advised us to keep an eye on it, and we both hoped it would vanish soon. And it did! Almost as quickly as it appeared! If you stick around for Poppy’s story, you’ll discover she’s a quirky Labrador.

Her next adventure was Ring Craft training, which focuses on show preparation. Unlike obedience classes, these sessions teach dogs to stand for the judges so they can be examined, move around the ring, and socialise in a bustling, noisy room. Poppy took to it like a duck to water, just as she did with puppy training. Her debut in the show ring was at a local event, though this didn’t go exactly to plan! We were blissfully unaware that a specific lead was required for showing. After all the effort we had done to get Poppy ready, we hadn’t done our homework! Thankfully, we met a lovely couple kindly helped us out, though not everyone was as generous. Poppy made us incredibly proud by snagging a first and third place on her first outing. Many more accolades would follow.

Somehow, I have veered off course from telling you about her first caravan holiday, which I am sure you have guessed was to Delamere! With Tilly’s assurance, she settled into caravan life, enjoying walks around the forests, selective hearing still present, new smells and surroundings came first, although she made sure she could see us and us her. Pub lunch followed, her first outdoors dining experience, this was still around the time dogs were not allowed inside, thankfully things have now changed, As long as Tilly was by her side, Poppy was happy wherever she went!
