How Lottie got her name: The story behind our sweet girl.

Before diving into the next chapter , let me share a little tale that had us in stitches and slightly scared. Remember when we opened the hydrotherapy pool, only t close it shortly after? Well one day while Tilly was having a swim, our cheeky Fred decided to investigate the water. In a link, there wa a massive splash, and there he was, Fred swimming under the water! I lept over the edge like a superhero, fished him out, and he just sat there giving me a look that said “Why did you interrupt my underwater adventure?” Needless to say, both Fred and Lottie got life jackets to wear. Two little water babies were born!

ur home had finally found its zen. The puppies had settled into their new homes, and we had mum, daughter, and aunty all under one roof. But there was one task left to do finding the perfect name for our little girl. With Poppy, Tilly and Molly names just seemed to pop into our heads, but with this little one it was a bit trickier. Maybe it was because she was part of our litter, and we’d seen so many personalities unlike the others who came with their quirks already on display. For a while she was nameless, which was a bit of a shame. 😢. Then one day we were out looking a new homes which had been recently built in a nearby town. Just to clarify, we weren’t planning a move; we were just on the hunt for some decorating ideas for our own home. Renovating was always on the agenda once the puppies had flown the nest. Anyway, as we wandered through the house, we stumbled upon a bedroom decorated in pink for two little girls. Above their beds were their names: Grace and Lottie. We exchanged a glance and, almost in unison, said “Lottie!” And just like that, Lottie was born, and the name fit like a glove.

Lottie became part of the “workforce” at Goodwin Plastics, it was a good place for the girls to be as they could roam safely and , therefore, got plenty of exercise during the day. Lottie, unlike her predecessors , was not content to just sit, sleep and people watch. Her first buddy was a pet goose called Graham, who belonged to a family member. The two became fast friends, and watching them play was hilarious. Next Lottie befriend a French Bulldog who visited daily with her owner. Lottie was so keen to see her that she would dash off to the building next door as soon as the car passed by, often spending the whole day with hew pal. She even made friends with the chickens next door, often lying with them and them perched on her back!

Puppy training was next on the agenda, and Lottie did well, though she didn’t quite match the success her mum had and just missed out on passing all classes before her first birthday. She made a mistake during her gold assessment which she had to redo. No worries, though!

We decided to give Lotties a shot in the show ring, both her parents were show stock Labradors. We attended ring craft classes, which are all about teaching dogs and handlers how to shine in the competitive show ring. Lotties took to it like a duck to water, so we signed her up for a local show. On the morning of the show, we noticed a white scar on her nose, which wasn’t ideal for a black dog! A quick swipe of mascara did the trick and off we went. Lotties was unfazed by the whole affair and came away with second place.

That summer, he was introduced to our local pub garden, were she seemed right at home. little did we know, this would become her favourite pastime later in life ! 😂.
