As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, we occasionally pop into show homes on new build estates. On one such visit, things felt a bit different. We were wandering through a house, and before we knew it, we were imagining our furniture in place and even plotting out the perfect spots for the dogs’ beds! Initially, we thought this stunning house was way out of our budget, but surprise, surprise, it wasn’t! Before I could blink, we’d bought a new house. That was the easy part; the real challenge was packing up our old place.
Now, anyone who knows Labradors knows they’re as curious as cats. As we were trying to pack up the kitchen, those two noses were in every box, and of course, the food was safely stashed on the kitchen counter! Naturally, there was a lot of chasing around with the classic line, “What have you got in your mouth?” We’re fortunate enough to have a storage space for furniture and boxes, so on the day we completed the sale of our old house and bought the new one, we simply closed the door. Sounds straightforward, right? But I must admit, it was quite emotional for me. I know memories are in your head and you don’t leave them behind when you move, but being in the place you’re reminiscing about makes it feel so much more real.
On moving day, we decided the girls would be better off at daycare. As much as they’d love to help in their own way, it was definitely less stressful for us. We had family pitching in with the move, but honestly, I’m not sure having a 3-year-old helping was any easier than two Labradors! September 2015 marked our official move!
We let Poppy and Lottie have a good explore of the new house and gardens to get their bearings. Since it was a new place, there were no familiar scents, but our first night went smoothly. With food and beds sorted, not a peep out of them until morning. To say we were proud of them would be an understatement; they took it all in their stride and settled in like pros. Where there’s food, there’s always a happy Labrador! Here’s to new adventures and memories!
