Trick Training and other things …

Poppy bounced back after her second back operation to fix those pesky broken screws, but alas, her country pursuits were put on pause. Meanwhile, Lottie discovered a new passion: trick training.

Held at the same venue as obedience classes, Lottie was already well-acquainted with the territory. Trick training is a fantastic way to bond with your dog, whether it’s teaching them to touch your hand, take a bow, or even open a door. Lottie bravely went solo, boosting her confidence without Mum holding her paw! She got quite the hang of it, but soon enough, she was showing off her skills at home. Perhaps we should have thought that through a bit more!

Another Cornish adventure awaited us, complete with an early start and a pit stop at the same services as last year. Our first stop was Watergate Bay, where the girls could stretch their legs and dash along the beach. Poppy, however, took one look at the chilly water and decided to belly flop into the sand instead! We stayed at the Travel Lodge, conveniently located in the heart of Newquay, just a short stroll from our beloved Lusty Glaze, the beach with the infamous 139 steps. As we wandered down the Main Street, a colossal seagull decided to perch right in the middle of the pavement. I’m not sure if they’re as massive everywhere, but this one was a giant! Lottie and Jason strolled past it without a care, but Poppy had a different plan. The cheeky seagull gave her the side-eye, and before we knew it, Poppy puffed herself up, chest out, and let out the lowest, deepest bark I’ve ever heard. The seagull took flight, but not before delivering a surprise to an unsuspecting passerby! This wasn’t Poppy’s first seagull showdown; in Padstow, she once faced off against a squawking chick, casually standing over it as if to say, “What’s your problem?”

Back home, we decided to add a conservatory to the back of our house. Sounds simple, right? But have you ever tried keeping two Labradors away from wet cement? Maybe if they’d stepped in it, there’d be a bit of them left behind!Little did I know, something big was brewing around the corner!
