As any dog owner will tell you, there are times when life throws a spanner in the works, and our furry friends have to fend for themselves. This time, it couldn’t have been more inconvenient—it clashed with Poppy’s 11th birthday 😢. We had planned some home renovations, with the grand finale supposed to be before her big day. Alas, the work was delayed, and the earliest available date was right around her birthday. Thankfully, Poppy and Lottie have always adored their stays at our local kennels, Wags of Cranage. Nestled in the Cheshire countryside, this family-run gem offers a home away from home, complete with a taxi service for those who can’t drop off their pups, grooming at the end of their stay, and plenty of playtime with other dogs. When we dropped them off, we jokingly mentioned it was Poppy’s 11th birthday! Amidst the chaos, we received a delightful video from the kennels showing them celebrating with a birthday treat, complete with the happy birthday soundtrack! How thoughtful and heartwarming of them. When the girls returned from their little holiday, we threw another birthday bash for Poppy with special pup cakes. She was one pampered pup that year, but every moment was worth it.
Now, every Labrador owner knows just how ‘helpful’ these dogs can be! 😂. After the renovations, the inevitable cleanup was upon us. With Poppy, this always turned into a marathon, mainly because she was on a mission to chase down any missing clothes or gloves that seemed to have a mind of their own, or she’d decide to liberate them from the cupboard and parade around with them before deciding it was all too much! This mysterious disappearing act also happened with my workout gloves! Let’s be honest, gym gear doesn’t always smell like a bouquet of roses, but to a dog, it’s utterly irresistible—very random! Anyway, I was in my home gym, setting up for a workout, when I realised one of my gloves was missing. I found the other one on the floor, but the second was nowhere to be seen. As I scanned the room, I spotted Poppy snoozing on her bed and thought, surely not her, right? How wrong I was! There, floating in their water bowl, was the missing glove, completely soaked! I glanced over at Poppy, and she cheekily opened her eyes, gave me a look, sighed, and drifted back to sleep!
